My Experience with the Asus Zenfone 10

My exploration of the Asus Zenfone 10 started when I received the 512GB storage and 16GB RAM unit in the basic black colour. As an avid techie, I was excited to see how this device would perform. I used the phone as my daily phone, which included photography, gaming, streaming shows, and the usual tasks like listening to music and browsing social media.

Design and Display- 8/10

One of the first things I noticed was the device’s design. The rounded corners of the Zenfone 10 match the round edges of the phone nicely, giving it a sleek, iPhone-like aesthetic from the front. On the back, two large, separate lenses stood out, housed within a rear plate covered in a soft-touch coating available in various colours, including a new green colour. I was personally not a fan of how the two camera lenses looked, neither do I like the new green colour.

The Zenfone 10’s design is similar to its predecessor, but the flat colours of the back with the large round cameras stand out a lot. The front offers a clear, familiar design that is pretty common with Asus phones. Plus, the textured back is a bonus for someone like me who uses phones without cases.

The star of the show, however, is undoubtedly the 5.92-inch 1080p OLED high refresh rate display. It’s a 144hz screen, but Asus has capped the maximum for regular use to 120 FPS. This doesn’t bother me, as it conserves battery life, and most people won’t see the difference anyway. The clear OLED display and sturdy design made me give it an 8/10 which is still a high score.

Performance and Battery – 7/10

The Asus Zenfone 10 comes equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which delivers top-tier performance. Even the 8GB model should be able to hold its own, making it a great option for gaming. I played PUBG: Battlegrounds on it and it was a very smooth experience with no heating.

My last review talked about how new phones come with a big-capacity battery, but this one comes with only a 4300 mAh battery. Despite the 4300mAh cell not being as large as some flagships, the small display and power-efficient chipset means the Zenfone 10 has no trouble lasting all day and well into a second with light to moderate use. I, personally, use my mobile phone a lot and sometimes even work on it, so I would have to charge this a couple of times a day!

Camera Quality – 9/10

The cameras on the Zenfone 10 are a standout feature. The top lens houses a gimbal to ensure steady shots with one hand, making it a great option for video enthusiasts. The adaptive EIS auto-adjusts the FOV, ensuring the subject is stable and in focus. This is pretty cool as this avoids shaky images and a more cinematic video recording. Not all phones have this, so it’s noteworthy that Asus gave us this feature.

I took several photos and found that the shots are clear and colourful, performing well in both bright and dim settings. Asus also improved the selfie cam from last year, now adding white pixels to the RGB to create RGBW, which ideally allows for better shots in low light.

Audio – 9/10

The Zenfone 10 offers a pair of stereo speakers and support for spatial sound thanks to Dirac Virtuo and hi-res lossless audio courtesy of Qualcomm aptX Lossless. Best of all, there’s a headphone jack up top, one of my favourite features. The sound quality is fantastic, and the phone also provides different scenario effects for audio enthusiasts (Wired, 2023).

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Asus Zenfone 10 has left a positive impression on me. It is a compact, well-designed phone with top-tier performance, impressive camera capabilities, and excellent audio quality. The device is not without its downsides – it may not be the best option for individuals with large hands or hardcore gamers due to its small size. However, if you’re someone who appreciates compact smartphones with robust features, the Asus Zenfone 10 is a great option to consider.
